In the midst of the farmers’ movement against the Centre’s agriculture law, Jat leaders from western Uttar Pradesh are going to meet Union Minister Sanjeev Balya at his residence today. Bharatiya Janata Party national vice-president Saudan Singh will also be present at the meeting. The strategy will be discussed on how to overcome the anger among the Jats of Western UP about the peasant movement.

A meeting was held at the BJP headquarters on Tuesday night in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda, attended by Jat leaders from UP, Rajasthan and Haryana. Tuesday’s meeting called on MPs and legislators to go among farmers and fight the ongoing propaganda about agricultural legislation.

The number of agitating farmers on the Gazipur border is steadily declining, but is this a well-thought-out strategy?

All Khaps, Panchayats etc. have been asked to be contacted. It was said in the meeting that opposition to agricultural law is not an issue, this ideological battle is going on. The BJP is particularly concerned about the Jat vote in western Uttar Pradesh, as the Jats have been giving full support to the BJP for the last three elections. The Jat vote is very important in about 40 assembly seats. UP has assembly elections next year and the BJP does not want to take the risk of objecting to the Jats.

Blog: Is the government preparing a toolkit to suppress it?

In Haryana, the BJP is in government with the Janata Party with strong infiltration into alliances. There is a lot of pressure on the JGP leaders of the Jat community to get out of the government. The BJP will work on a strategy to increase ground connectivity. The Jats of western Uttar Pradesh are angry at the cry of Naresh Tikait. Tikait is constantly holding mahapanchayats in western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to create an environment against Krishna law.
