Rohtak: Days after I-T raids were conducted at residence and offices of independent MLA Balraj Kundu, khaps claimed that it was done to settle political scores with the Meham MLA.
On February 25, income tax officials conducted raids at residences and offices of MLA Balraj Kundu in Rohtak, Hansi and Gurgaon. Kundu had been a vocal critic of the Centre in support of the ongoing farm agitation against the three bills.
Addressing mediapersons after a meeting at the local Chhotu Ram Dharamshala, Hardeep Ahlwat, president, Ahlawat khap-84, said the income tax raids were aimed at discouraging Kundu from supporting the ‘Kisan Andolan.’ The khap leader alleged that the raids smacked of political conspiracy and ill-will against the MLA. He claimed that the khaps warned the Centre and state governments against adopting pressure tactics to diffuse the ‘Kisan Andolan,’ failing which there would be serious consequences.
Khaps said they stood with MLA Kundu, who withdrew support to the BJP-JJP coalition government and said the government should not be under the impression that he does not have support from social organisations.
They also announced that campaigns would be launched to spread word about the alleged “harsh steps” being taken by the government against leaders supporting the farmers’ protest. Khaps also condemned the government for registering criminal cases against farmers for showing black flags to BJP leaders in rural areas.
