Faridkot, Mar 22 (UNI) The Youth Akali Dal (YAD) today asserted that Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convener Bhagwant Mann had taken a huge bribe running into crores of rupees from corporate houses to sign away the rights of the farmers of the country by giving his assent to the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 in a recent meeting of the parliamentary Standing Committee on Food and Consumer Affairs.
Addressing a press conference here, YAD President Parambans Singh Romana demanded an inquiry by a sitting judge of the high court into the entire scandal, saying the inquiry should unmask all the beneficiaries of the multi-crore scam. “This inquiry is essential because this money will be used to befool the innocent farmers by AAP in the run up to the 2020 assembly elections”, he added.
Stating that this was not the first time that Bhagwant Mann had compromised the interest of farmers, Mr Parambans Romana said earlier when the Essential Commodities (amendment) Bill was presented for approval in parliament; Mann had tactically staged a walk out under an understanding with corporate houses like the Ambanis and the Adanis. “Later Mann falsely claimed that no voting had taken place. Now again he has backstabbed the farmers by selling their interests to corporate houses by raking in crores for himself and his party”.
Stating that the time for games was over, the YAD President said the Punjab AAP Convener stood exposed and the farmers of the State would never forgive him for betraying them. He demanded Bhagwant Mann resign immediately as MP besides demanding that AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal expel Mann from the party if he really did not know about the deal Mann had made with the corporate houses. “If Kejriwal does not shunt out Mann it will be clear that he is also in league with the corporate houses as well as the BJP led central government”.
Mr Romana also presented proof to expose the Punjab AAP Convener conclusively. He said Bhagwant Mann had attended the meeting of the parliamentary Standing Committee and his name was listed in the minutes of the meeting. Showing the relevant documents to the media, Mr Romana said Mann had also given his assent to the new Essential Commodities Act despite knowing that it encouraged hoarding and would result in the further exploitation of the farmers”.
Stating that both Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann would have to explain this duplicitous conduct, the YAD President said on the one hand AAP was trying to win over Punjabis in Punjab by supporting the Kisan Andolan, even as it was indulging in treachery against the Andolan and farmers at large by giving its assent to the Essential Commodities Act. He said in the process the AAP leadership had insulted all sections of people who were supporting the Andolan and participating in it as well as the 300 farmers who had been martyred during the course of this struggle.
